I
had a plan, and a dog wasn’t in it!
At fifty-six, I was worn out from living on airplanes and
traveling the world on business. It was time to retire!
Then, a wayward dog found its way to our front door in the
midst of one of the coldest days since I retired to
Tennessee.
This was no ordinary mutt. Lokey, as we named him, was a big
dog, a really big dog.
My wife and I had spent twenty plus years breeding, raising
and showing cats. So, bringing a dog in to a house filled
with pampered show cats wasn’t a good idea.
Unable to find his owner, and unwilling to bring Lokey
inside, we managed to find him a good home. As he departs
our driveway, seated between two small children, we suddenly
realized that he’d captured and now broken our hearts.
Enter Sabrina, a nine and a half week old German shepherd
puppy – man’s best friend and our cat’s worst enemy!
“Unconditional Love – on loan from God” is a love story.
More than that, it is a learning experience – mine!
This is not just another dog story. I promise you a fast
paced romp and a few tear filled pages as you follow my trip
through canine parenthood and learn what so many pet owners
already know - love doesn’t end with death, it continues in
the form of memories that last a lifetime!
